The Moon has long fascinated humans; a strange pale celestial body illuminating the night sky. That fascination built curiosity, and that curiosity led to innovation. Innovation that led to man finally reaching that seemingly far-off goal. Landing on the moon closed the gap between mankind and the great beyond, a step forward into the deep unknown of space.
My photographs are an attempt to convey the progression of mankind's understanding about the moon, and space in general. Over time we learn more and more and the image becomes clearer. The moon once seemed like such a distant dream, but when we were able to put men up there and plant a flag, that dream came closer to reality. The possibilities of going beyond the moon suddenly seemed plausible and the mysteries of space were within man's reach. And, most of all, the space between us and the moon became a whole lot smaller.
I included this work as a part of my projects as it relates to place. The moon is a place, and is key a presence in human history and the natural world, so the understanding of it and actual travel to it seemingly makes it a suitable fit for my work.
